The Smithsonian Channel has announced the launch of a new docu-series about the oil boom in the Bakken shale region of North Dakota and Montana. Boomtowners debuts on Sunday, April 26 and has six one-hour episodes in the series. The series is narrated by David Kaye. David Royle, Executive Vice President of Programming and Product for the Smithsonian Channel said, ““The Bakken Boom is a modern-day Gold Rush, fueled by the American dream of rags to riches,” he said. “It’s like the Wild West all over again, with compelling characters from all walks of life and from all across America seeking their fortunes. And like the Wild West, it’s transforming some lives but leaving others with shattered dreams. It is certainly one of the most important economic developments of our time…but at what cost?”
